On Nov. 18, 1930, the first volume of Tsunesaburo Makiguchi’s four-volume work “Soka kyoikugaku taikei” (The System of Value-Creating Education) was published. This day also marks the Soka Gakkai’s founding. Mr. Makiguchi’s disciple, Josei Toda, took on editing and rewriting the work out of gratitude to his mentor. From its very beginnings, the Soka Gakkai originated in the mentor and disciple relationship. This path begins from the disciple’s effort to learn the mentor’s spirit and practice.
