SGI President Daisaku Ikeda says to the members of the student division: "You, my young friends of the student division, who have such an important mission, are making energetic efforts to expand our movement for kosen-rufu, leading the way for the entire world. Nothing makes me happier than to see you, our insightful and courageous student division members, achieving such vibrant growth. All of you are my dearest disciples and successors, and I praise and commend your spirited efforts most highly" (5/30/2014 World Tribune, p.3).
The SGI-USA student division is comprised of youth division members who are pursuing higher education. Focusing on academic studies and communicating the ideals of Nichiren Buddhism to others, student division members take pride in their history of trailblazing the SGI movement of worldwide kosen-rufu.
Campus clubs across the nation host regular activities (including holding weekly or monthly club meetings, organizing campus-wide events and/or hosting SGI-USA exhibitions) as a means to introduce others to the SGI-USA and to communicate the SGI's ideals of peace, culture and education.
In 2011, the SGI-USA student division launched its "Our New Clear Future" campaign to abolish nuclear weapons by the year 2030. This campaign centers on Second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda's declaration for the abolition of nuclear weapons made on September 8, 1957 and his disciple, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's subsequent continuous efforts toward this cause.
