Greetings Ikeda Youth Ensemble of the New Era!

On September 22, 2014, Ikeda Youth Ensemble celebrated its 4th anniversary since President Daisaku Ikeda bestowed the name Ikeda Youth Ensemble to the youth performing groups of the SGI-USA.

Ikeda Youth Ensemble Competition

This past summer, we hosted our 3rd National Ikeda Youth Ensemble Competition at Soka University of America. Over 150 performers from across the United States gathered together to perform at SUA’s Performing Arts Center to display the performances in the categories of: Brass Band, Fife and Drum Corps, Taiko, Chorus and Dance. Based on the conference theme of “Together with Sensei: Running for Justice in Our New Era”, Ikeda Youth Ensemble members responded to our mentor, Daisaku Ikeda, through uplifting and hope-filled performances.

Champions of the New Era

In June 2014, SGI-USA Youth began holding Champions of the New Era youth meetings around the country. In an effort to inspire hope and courage to all members and guests, Ikeda Youth Ensemble members are wholeheartedly supporting Champions of the New Era meetings with inspiring performances.

Ikeda Youth Ensemble Direction

As Champions of the New Era grows, we encourage all Ikeda Youth Ensemble members to joyfully participate in their local Champions of the New Era meetings. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Performance Categories: Performances can include existing categories of Brass Band, Fife and Drum Corps, Taiko, Dance and Chorus. New and fresh ideas are highly encouraged and welcome, and we encourage members to think of refreshing and creative performances beyond the current categories
  • Region/Zone Collaborations - Collaborative performances among different Regions and Zones as applicable to your local Champions of the New Era Meeting
  • Youth with a Noble Vow – Sensei wrote a new song to all SGI Youth in April 2014. In responding to our mentor, let’s joyfully perform this song at any available opportunity.
