San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee issued a Certificate of Honor to SGI President Ikeda on Oct. 5, 2017, to commemorate the 57th anniversary of his first visit to San Francisco in October 1960. The proclamation recognizes President Ikeda as an educator, peacebuilder, Buddhist philosopher and author, who has committed over 70 years to promoting equality and global citizenship. “Your actions have left a profound impact on the world, setting an example for others to follow,” the proclamation states, in part. “Thank you for your service, and best wishes on your future endeavors.”
